Tourism eyes foreign shoppers
Retail sales were one of the most important benefits of tourism and essential to boost co-ordination between State bodies in order to design more professional sales promotion strategies to lure visitors, experts said at a seminar in Ha Noi yesterday.
The symposium was held to review the "Impressive Viet Nam Grand Sale 2010" which was launched to ignite tourism in August and September in Ha Noi, HCM City and Da Nang. The scheme was jointly undertaken by the Ha Noi Department of Industry and Trade and the Viet Nam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT).
101 reasons to love living in Hanoi
In 2001, Mark Rapoport and his family left New York to settle in Hanoi.
The long-time expat and his Vietnamese partner run 54 Traditions, a gallery that sells handicrafts produced by ethnic minorities from all over the country. Almost every year, Rapaport’s two sons visit their parents and travel throughout the city.
“Over the last nine years, my wife, Alison, and I (with some help from our two children Robert and Jane Hughes) have put together a list of 101 reasons why we love living in Hanoi,” Rapaport said. “We presented it as a book, entitled 101 reasons to love living in Hanoi, which we published last July to celebrate the 1,000th year anniversary of Thang Long – Hanoi.”
Hanoi launches promotion month
More than 1,100 special displays of products from 300 businesses, commercial centres, supermarkets and shops will be set up in various venues around the city for promotion month in Hanoi from November 1-30.
Speaking at the opening ceremony for the promotion on October 30, a representative of the capital city’s leaders said that this will be a good occasion for international and national consumers to enjoy many good promotional programmes and buy quality products at reasonable prices.
Ha Noi set for November sales
About 350-500 businesses are set to join Ha Noi's second sales promotion month, organised by the city's Department of Industry and Trade in November, the department announced yesterday.
Many products from participating companies will be discounted by at least 15 per cent, the department said.

Tips for Shopping and Bargain in Vietnam
If the item does not have a price tag, the price is nearly always negotiable.
When negotiating a price, knock at least three quarters off the top.
If negotiations are getting you nowhere start to walk, you will be amazed by the number of sellers that will agree on your price while walking away.
