The old quarter, near Hoan Kiem lake, has the original street layout and architecture of old Hanoi: At the beginning of the 20th century the city consited of only about 36 streets, most of which are now part of the old quarter. Each street then had merchants and households specialized in a particular trade, such as silk trades, jewellery, etc.
Another electric car service to open in Hano
Another electric car service for tourism is scheduled to go into operation at Tay Ho district, Hanoi on Sep 2 to mark National Independence Day.
Some 20 electric cars will take visitors for sightseeing around West Lake and other famous landscapes including different pagodas, communal houses, temples and parks, said the state-owned Tay Ho company, the operator of the project.
Hanoi prepares for elections
The capital city of Hanoi is actively making preparations for the elections of the 13th National Assembly and the People’s Councils at all levels for the 2011-16 term, which will take place on May 22.
The city plans to hang 540 banners and posters and thousands of flags on major streets around Hoan Kiem Lake, Ba Dinh Square and several other important venues.
