Hoa Lo Prison Museum Hanoi

Hoa Lo prison museum Hanoi  located in number 1, Hoa Lo  street on the corner with  Hai Ba Trung street, is all that remains of the former Hoa Lo Prison, ironically nicknamed the ‘Hanoi Hilton’ by US POWs during the American War. Those incarcerated at Hoa Lo included Pete Peterson, who would later become the first US Ambassador to Vietnam following the re-establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries in 1995.

Tran Quoc pagoda

Imperial Citadel of Thang Long

The Imperial Citadel of Thang Long was the cultural complex which comprises Thang Long Imperial City during the dynasties of King Ly, King Tran and King Le and Hanoi Citadel during the Nguyen Dynasty. Through the ups and downs of Vietnamese history, the remains of Imperial Citadel of Thang Long are roughly where the Hanoi Citadel lies today.

Long Bien Bridge

Long Bien Bridge is a symbol of the immortality of Hanoians and is considered a bridge that connects the past and the present. The bridge is an historical witness of the changes in Hanoi.

The Long Bien bridge was constructed from 1989 to 1902 during French’s occupation of the country. Though the bridge was designed by French, it was built directly by 3000 Vietnamese workers with indigenous construction materials like woods from Phu Tho, Yen Bai, Thanh Hoa province, cement from Hai Phong, Long Tho line from Hue.

A trip in Snake Village-Le Mat

One thing that should definitely be on your itinerary is a trip to Le Mat - Snake Village! It’s about 10-15 minutes from Old Quarters on the back of a motorcycle-taxi, and trust me, you do want to take a taxi. Any taxi driver will be able to take you there, drop you off, and pick you up a couple of hours later.

Snake Village-Le Mat

Lệ Mật is a village in the Northeast of Hanoi, now in Viet Hung ward, Long Bien district. It is 7km north-east of central Hanoi. The village is famous for snake raising and hunting, and snake meat specialties.

Tran Quoc pagoda

Tran Quoc pagoda in Hanoi is the oldest surviving pagoda. Constructed in the sixth century during the reign of Emperor Ly Nam De with the name Khai Quoc (National Founder). At first it was built outside the Yen Phu duke and the named An Quoc and Tran Bac. With architecture harmonious with nature, the pagoda complement statues inside Tran Quoc pagoda in Hanoi was fashioned in 1639.

Bat Trang Ceramics

On the left bank of Hong river and about 10 km from Hanoi in East (in Gia Lam District, Hanoi), mere situated a pottery village, which is the most famous and long standing pottery village in Vietnam for its name of Bat Trang.
