HCM City names best tourism brands

HCMC, the country’s biggest tourism center, last Saturday announced the best travel firms, hotels, travel websites, shopping venues and tourism service providers in the city.

Four businesses – Saigontourist Travel Service, Fiditourist, Ben Thanh Tourist and Vietravel – are all included in the lists of the top 10 inbound companies, 10 outbound companies and 10 domestic companies.

The First Vietnam Ethnic Minority Youth Festival will be held at the Culture Tourist Village in Hanoi on April 17.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism introduced the new festival at a press conference in Hanoi on April 9.

Ho Chi Minh City welcomed 620,000 foreign visitors in the first two months of this year, an increase of 9% over the same period last year, according to the city’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

This brought the city’s tourism sector a turnover of VND 7,860 billion, up 24% compared to the same period last year and achieving 16% of the target set for 2011.

HCMC opens 30 spring flower markets today

30 spring flower markets across Ho Chi Minh City open today to sell apricots, orchids, chrysanthemum, peach blossom and other typical flowers for this Tet or the New Year of the Cat, announced the city People’s Committee.

By the afternoon of January 25, the three parks 23-9 and Le Van Tam in district 1 and Gia Dinh in Phu Nhuan District have been fully covered with abundant flowers and ornamental trees, said Tran Thien Ha, director of HCMC Greenery and Park Company.

Three international cruise ships with 3,000 visitors and crew members have anchored at Saigon Port and Lotus Port in Ho Chi Minh City.

The two US ships, Nautica with 700 passengers on board and SeaBourn Pride with over 100 passengers, docked at the Saigon Port Saturday.

Over 600 overseas Vietnamese (OVs) flocked to a meeting in Ho Chi Minh City on January 22 in celebration of the Year of the Cat.

The event included dialogues between OVs and municipal authorities on policies to promote the OV community’s potential as well as on investment, trade and services. The dialogues provided OVs with information on investment climate, business opportunities, trade stimuli and new policies of the southern economic hub.

The Saigontourist Travel Service Company welcomed 300 visitors and crew members arriving aboard the Princess Daphne luxury cruise ship from Portugal to Ho Chi Minh City on January 15.

This is the second visit by the luxury liner to Vietnam. Visitors, mostly from Australia, will tour the city and visit the Cu Chi tunnels and My Tho City in the Mekong Delta province of Tien Giang.
