Private carrier Air Mekong will start a non-stop route next Thursday from Hanoi to the southern island of Phu Quoc, news website VnExpress reported.

 

This is the longest domestic route offered, and it will cut the flying time in half by avoiding a transfer in Ho Chi Minh City, it said.

Rach Gia airport under repair

The national flag carrier, Vietnam Airlines, will temporarily cancel flights to and from Rach Gia Airport in the southern Province of Kien Giang for during the airport is under renovation.

Accordingly, Vietnam Airlines will reduce flights at the Ho Chi Minh CityRach Gia–Phu Quoc route from April 4th to 23rd.

Vietnam Airlines, on March 31st, announced to increase 48 domestic flights from April 28th to May 3rd to meet the customers’ growing demands.

Accordingly, the increased flights include Ha Noi to Nha Trang (8 flights), Ha Noi to Da Nang (8 flights), Ha Noi to Ho Chi Minh city (8 flights), Ho Chi Minh city to Phu Quoc (10 flights), Ho Chi Minh city to Da Nang (6 flights), Ho Chi Minh city to Nha Trang (8 flights). All these routines will use A380 aircraft, and the increase is estimated at 70%.

Over 80 travel companies from 24 provinces and cities will attend the Ho Chi Minh City Tourism Festival 2011, to introduce and sell their products and services at 150 stalls.

This was revealed yesterday by the city Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism which will officially open the festival from April 7-10 at 23-9 Park in District 1.

Phu Quoc Island

Phu Quoc - the largest island of Vietnam with natural charming

Phu Quoc, 45km from the coast of Vietnam, can be reached by a brief flight from Ho Chi Minh City or a much longer boat trip from Rach Gai, 250km from Ho Chi Minh City by road.It’s a large, teardrop shaped island, about 50km from top to bottom and around 30km across at its widest point, and a population of approximately 75,000. There is a sizeable military presence in the north of the island as it is claimed by Cambodia, only 15km away.

VietNamNet Bridge - Air Mekong launched flights from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to Phu Quoc Island off Kien Giang Province on October 8. 

The Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam presented an Air Operator Certificate (AOC) to the new carrier on the same day.

Deputy Prime Minister, Hoang Trung Hai, has just instructed the Southern Airports Corporation to actively collaborate with the Kien Giang People’s Committee to thoroughly settle problems related to ground clearing in the project to build Phu Quoc Airport.

He also urged the company to mobilise all of its efforts and assets to accelerate the project implementation and to put the airport into operation by October 2011.
