Laos Package Tours

Laos and Cambodia introduced a series of investment projects to Vietnamese enterprises at a recent conference hosted by Vietnam-Laos-Cambodia Economic Development and Cooperation Association (VILACAED) in Hanoi.

Le Van Tuy, Head of Economic Development and Cooperation Committee with Cambodia said among major projects calling for investment in Cambodia, of the most noteworthy are the manufacturing of electric cables, the building of an Olympic stadium worth 156 million USD, a special economic zone and a 500-hectare land terminal in the area between Cambodia’s Ratanakiri provinces and Gia Lai of Vietnam.

A Vietnam-Laos friendship golf tournament was held by the Vietnamese embassy in Vientiane on March 26 to celebrate the success of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party’s ninth National Congress and to welcome Lao New Year Bpee Mai.

Participants in the event included the Lao Vice President Bounnhang Vorachith, Deputy Prime Minister Somsavad Lengsavath, and many other senior Lao officials. On the Vietnamese side, there were Ambassador Ta Minh Chau, Envoy Luong Quoc Huy, and the leaders of the Vietnamese Association in Laos as well as many Vietnamese entrepreneurs.

Hoi An has made it to the list of the world's 10 best cities for tourism by the UK's Wanderlust travel magazine. The city received 96% of votes from readers to rank second.

Luang Prabang, the world heritage site in Laos, retained its top position in the magazine's annual list of best tourist destinations with 96.89% votes.

More than 80 Vietnamese and Lao investors and businesses have attended a conference to promote investment in the Lao Bao special economic-commerical zone of Vietnam and the Densavan border trade zone of Laos.

At the conference in central Quang Tri province on March 10, participants were briefed on preferential investment policies relating to training demand, employment, traffic infrastructure, and tax reduction and exemption for the Lao Bao zone of Quang Tri province and the Densavan zone of Savanakhet province.

Honouring ASEAN businesspeople

A programme was launched in Hanoi to present the “ASEAN outstanding businesses, ASEAN famous trademarks” award, and gold cup for outstanding and talented businesspeople of Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia.

The programme was co-sponsored by the Van Hien Viet Nam (Vietnam Civilisation Magazine), the Vietnam-Laos and Cambodia Economic Cooperation Development Association and other organisations.

Bay vies for World Wonder status

The campaign to collect votes for Ha Long Bay to be recognised as one of the New 7 Wonders of the World in November is entering the final stages, according to Nguyen Van Tinh, head of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism International Co-operation Department.

The department has come up with a plan, which includes a photography contest, a painting competition for children, and an art performance to promote the image of Ha Long Bay, which is among the 28 finalists.

Mountain climbers set to compete

Da Bia International Mountain Marathon is scheduled to be held at Da Bia mountain in Dong Hoa District, in the central province of Phu Yen on February 27, the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has announced.

The event is expected to attract teams from 15 cities and provinces nationwide and four teams from Laos, Cambodia, Thailand and Myanmar.

Vietnam-Laos friendship enhanced

President of the Confederation of the Overseas Vietnamese Associations in Laos Hoang Dieu on February 17 handed over US$50,000 as a gift to the Lao National War Veteran Association.

The sum was contributed by Le Van Kiem, CEO of the Long Thanh Golf Investment and Business Joint Stock Company, who used to be a Vietnamese volunteer soldier in Laos during the past war.
